105 paints, doors that shut themselves

Porsche published the model-year update on the Cayenne Electric on September 16. Paint to Sample is on the car now: 105 shades — thirteen standard, then the rest to order. Delgada Green stitching if you want it. Extended interior style package if you want more.

Two pieces of hardware. Electrically operated doors, all four — a Porsche first — with sensors, and a close from the Digital Key, the seatbelt, or the brake pedal. Porsche Wireless Charging, up to 11 kW at roughly 90 percent efficiency: pad on the car, pad on the ground, no cable. Staged rollout; orderable in Europe first.

Massage seats with 4D audio — sixteen air cushions and six actuators per front seat, five programs. Cayenne Electric SUV and Coupé. None of it is on the Macan on the lot this week.

Steel Daytona, polar white enamel

Rolex used this year’s Watches & Wonders on the steel Daytona. The dial is grand feu enamel, all white — fired glass, not lacquer. Lacquer yellows. This one should still read white in forty years.

An exhibition caseback. Calibre 4131 on display, joining the ice-blue Platinum and the Le Mans as the Daytonas that let you watch the movement. Platinum in the small places too — bezel ring, caseback ring, and PVD platinum tachymeter markings on an anthracite Cerachrom bezel, set vertically 12-to-6. Forty millimeters of Oystersteel. 100 meters. Superlative Chronometer, now with three tighter tests for magnetism, reliability, and sustainability.
